IPWSO is aware of many services for people with Prader-Willi syndrome that are entirely reliant on private fundraising and are now struggling due to the downturn in fundraising caused by COVID-19. One such service is the only PWS-specific residential service operating in South Africa. You can learn more about Huis Henri and the challenges it is facing below.
A guest blog from Liezl Warnich Vlok of the Henri Warnich Foundation in South Africa:
Good morning to all our families, friends and loyal supporters. We hope you are coping in the midst of these very challenging times. At Huis Henri, we are struggling with mixed emotions. On the one hand we are so happy and blessed with the well-being and successes of our staff and residents and on the other we are facing serious financial challenges. We had so many plans for 2020. The year when we really wanted to grow Huis Henri by adding at least two more residents and in doing so take us one step closer to a sustainable future.
Unfortunately, COVID came along which stalled our new residents and derailed all our fundraising initiatives.
We are hoping for a miracle to make us survive 2020 and then tackle 2021 with new vigor, passion and love.
