Travel scholarships
In order to share knowledge about Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS) around the world, IPWSO is delighted to offer a limited number of travel scholarships to people who wish to attend the 7th International PWS Caregivers’ Conference but who could not do so without financial support. This scheme is sponsored by Friends of IPWSO (USA), a non-profit organisation.
IPWSO believes that facilitating attendance at the IPWSO Caregivers’ Conference by people working in residential settings, or hoping to establish residential settings is an important means by which knowledge and best practices can be shared. The expectation of the scholarship is that successful applicants will stimulate the development or improvement of residential services for people with PWS and build connections between residential providers that will facilitate ongoing learning and peer support.
In this round of awards, applicants may apply for up to £1,000. However, if IPWSO receives more applications for support than we are able to fund, we may to choose to award a partial contribution.
Applicants must be willing, if successful, to be publicly identified by IPWSO and Friends of IPWSO (USA) as having received a scholarship (e.g., on the IPWSO and Friends of IPWSO (USA) websites and in their annual reports).
Applicants must also be willing to prepare a brief report, which IPWSO and Friends of IPWSO may make public, on their experience at the conference within 3 months of the end of the conference.
Priority will be given to applicants who:
- are from underserved countries or regions;
- live in countries in which PWS Caregivers’ conferences do not currently take place and where there is little support for people with PWS;
- have previously supported people with PWS;
- present a coherent plan to build on the knowledge gained at the conference to improve the lives of people with PWS and their families in their country/region;
- have not previously received funding from IPWSO;
- have not previously attended an international PWS Caregivers’ conference.
Applications will be assessed in terms of:
- applicants’ experience of supporting people with PWS;
- applicants’ plans to continue to support people with PWS after the conference concludes;
- the reasonableness of the amount claimed;
- the importance of providing support in this country/region.
The closing date for the receipt of applications is 22 January, 2027. Successful applicants will be selected by the IPWSO Grants Committee whose decision will be final. Both successful and unsuccessful applicants will be informed by 19 February.
All applications must be in English, and amounts must be stated in GBP£. IPWSO reserves the right to exclude applications that are incomplete, not in English and/or do not quote costs in GBP£.

Prader-Willi syndrome is a complex genetic condition. Various studies have shown that between 1 in 15,000 to 25,000 children are born with Prader-Willi syndrome and it affects all races and both sexes equally.
Free Genetic Screening
If you suspect your patient has Prader-Willi syndrome, based on the clinical signs and symptoms, but are unable to access testing in your country, then you may be able to access free genetic screening.
